Hello to anyone who decides to spend their time actually reading what I have to say. I tend to be all over the place, so bear with me as I try my best to navigate my thoughts. I'll start plainly and simply by introducing myself. My name is America. I spend most of my time enjoying what life has to offer, ideally in the form of caffeine and a good book. I am currently a college student majoring in English. After I graduate, my goal is to attain a teaching credential so that I can teach at a high school. However, this new era of technological advancements has become a point of contention in classrooms, causing concern over how one can maneuver through and find the best possible solutions that would benefit students. One can't deny the benefits of using media technology such as AI and how it has become a helpful tool in everyday life for many. Using media technology can play an effective role in teaching. It can be intertwined within the curriculum to enhance work productivity and allow students to explore more creative outlets. One effective use of media technology I experienced firsthand was in high school. My English teacher sophomore year, separated us into groups and assigned us to create a podcast centered around a specific author and novel we had to cover. We could meet with our group each week and record an episode on our phones. This method helped enhance our understanding of the material we were reading; it also allowed us to express ourselves creatively while learning how to identify elements of storytelling. However, some ineffective uses of media technology involve large amounts of plagiarism in writing, which is one of the more challenging issues to handle. However, as technology advances, it is like fighting a losing battle. This is why teachers and administrators should try incorporating more of AI's functional aspects to enhance the school curriculum.

  1. Hello America! I agree with everything you have said about media technology in the classroom. I support the idea that using media technology in the classroom can influence creative outlets from both the students and the teachers as well. As you mention, I agree that using media technology can increase work productivity, and it can create an engaging atmosphere, which is important for the success of our students. Assignments like the ones your high school teacher created where you create a podcast centered around a novel is a great implementation of media technology. It allows students to use their creativity while learning, which I believe can lead to better retention of topics that are taught. While I am also aware that ineffective uses of media technology can lead to plagiarism, I also feel that plagiarism has been around for a long time and if a student wants to cheat, they will cheat. We must move forward as a society and learn to include media technology for our benefit and understand that there are cons and pros to everything in life.

  2. Hello America,

I agree with you in terms of how media technology can play an effective/ineffective role in teaching. I agree that depending on how the media technology is being used, that will impact the outcome. Just as you said, if the media technology is aiding students in ways that help them learn most effectively, then media technology is very beneficial and making a positive and lasting impact on students. Not only will this help students in the present, but it will also help them in the future as they will be able to use a different method of learning that is most effective for them and their needs. However, it can also lead, as you mentioned, to a bad pathway if not taught correctly. I agree that we must teach with media technology as it is ever growing and will not be going away anytime soon.

  3. Hi America! I love the title of your blog, and I really enjoyed spending the time to read what you had to say about technology in the classroom! I too am a good lover of anything caffeinated and a good book. I don’t personally strive to become a teacher, but I’ve had enough field experience to understand the grueling work that it is, and will continue to be as teachers of the new generation have to concern themselves with technology in the classroom. I am so happy that you had a positive experience with technology in the classroom, too many times have I seen it been abused and teachers neglect to do anything about it. I myself I’m a firm believer in staying current and not holding yourself back when it comes to updates, especially concerning technology. I’m also in firm belief in allowing children autonomy. It’s difficult because there is such a gray area in which we have to concern ourselves. We must allow children their freedom in use of technology, but also maintaining responsibility when they use. I truly loved reading your blog and can’t wait to read more in the future. Wonderful job!
